Privacy policy
Last updated October 5, 2026 · Effective October 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes how CaseFill, a business operated by Jonathan Flores ("CaseFill," "Company," "we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, protects and discloses personal information when you use our self-help document software, website and related services (together, the "Platform").
Handling court paperwork requires trust. You may enter sensitive personal, financial or dispute-related information, so CaseFill is built to keep it on your own device: the information you put into your case is stored in your browser, not on our servers. This Policy explains exactly what is stored, where, and what leaves your device.
1. Important notice: no attorney-client privilege
Communications with CaseFill and information entered into the Platform are not protected by attorney-client privilege, the work-product doctrine, or any confidentiality rule that applies to attorneys. We protect your information with the technical measures described below, but entering it into software is not the same as telling a licensed attorney in confidence.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Your case information ("User Legal Content") stays in your browser
When you use the form filler, questions and document tools, you may enter:
- Identifying details: names, dates of birth, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses;
- Case and court details: case numbers, court names, names of other parties, hearing dates and deadlines;
- Sensitive facts: details of your situation, declarations, property lists and financial figures that court forms ask for.
All of this, along with your saved PDFs, papers, exhibits, saved attorneys and clients, and settings, is kept in your browser's own storage (local storage and IndexedDB) on the device you are using. No CaseFill server receives it. We can't see it, and we can't recover it if it is deleted. The Cookies and browser storage page lists every item stored.
2.2 Account information
Using the CaseFill app on casefill.org requires a free account. You sign in with Google or with a one-time link sent to your email; CaseFill has no passwords for you to create. When you sign in we keep:
- your email address, and your name if you sign in with Google;
- how you signed in (Google or email link), when your account was created, and when you last signed in;
- which version of our Terms of Service you accepted and when.
Google shares only your name, email address and whether the email is verified; we don't receive your Google password, contacts or files. If you write to us, we keep your message to answer it.
2.3 Payments and contributions
Contributions are processed by Stripe, Inc. You sign in to CaseFill first, then enter your payment details on Stripe's secure checkout page; CaseFill never receives your full card or bank account number. We keep a record of each contribution (the amount, the date, the email address of your account, and Stripe's reference numbers) for our accounting and so refunds can be handled. Stripe keeps its own records of the payment under the Stripe Privacy Policy. If we add paid plans, they will also be handled through Stripe, and we will update this Policy before they start.
2.4 Technical information
Our host, Cloudflare, handles the ordinary technical information every website request carries, such as your IP address, browser type and the time of the request, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. CaseFill runs no analytics or tracking tools and shows no ads.
3. How we use information
- Filling your documents: done entirely in your browser, from the information you enter there.
- Accounts: signing you in, keeping a record of the Terms you accepted, and contacting you about your account or important changes to CaseFill.
- Security: preventing abuse, such as floods of sign-in emails, and unauthorized access.
- Contributions: recording each contribution for our accounting, and handling refunds.
- Support: answering your questions.
- Legal obligations: responding to valid legal process and meeting record-keeping laws.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information to data brokers, advertisers or anyone else, and we do not share it for advertising.
4. Storage, security and retention
- In transit: everything between your browser and casefill.org is encrypted with TLS (HTTPS).
- Your case information stays in your browser. You can lock it with a password from My cases or About & privacy; your cases, papers and saved PDFs are then encrypted in your browser with AES-256-GCM, using a key made from your password with PBKDF2. The password is never stored or sent anywhere, so neither we nor anyone else can recover it. If you forget it, the locked data can only be erased.
- Account records are stored with Cloudflare and kept while your account is active. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it within 30 days, except anything we must keep by law.
5. Who we share information with
- Service providers that run the Platform for us: Cloudflare (hosting and account records), Resend (delivering sign-in emails, which receives your email address and the message), and Stripe (processing contributions, which receives your email address and the payment details you enter on its checkout page). They process information only to provide their service to us.
- Inside Claude (claude.ai): two optional features send something to Claude only when you click them. Extract with Claude sends the text you choose; Read with Claude sends images of a scanned paper's pages. That use is covered by Anthropic's privacy policy.
- Legal and safety reasons: we may disclose account information if required by law, subpoena or court order, or if we believe in good faith it is needed to prevent harm, fraud or violations of our Terms of Service. We cannot disclose your case information, because we don't have it.
- Business transfers: if CaseFill is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets, account information may be transferred. We will tell you by email or a notice on the site before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
6. Cookies and browser storage
CaseFill sets one cookie, which keeps you signed in for up to 30 days, and a second short-lived one during Google sign-in. Your work is saved in your browser's storage so the app keeps your progress between visits. There are no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. You can block cookies in your browser, but then you won't be able to sign in. The Cookies page lists every cookie and storage item. If this changes, we'll update this Policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
7. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example, California under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA), you have rights over your personal information:
- Know and access: ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: ask us to correct inaccurate account information.
- Deletion: ask us to delete your account and the personal information we hold, subject to legal record-keeping exceptions. Your case information is on your device; erase it yourself with the steps in section 8.
- Non-discrimination: we will never deny you service or charge you differently for using these rights.
To make a request, email [email protected] from the address on your account with the subject line "Privacy Rights Request."
8. Deleting your information
Open About & privacy in CaseFill and choose Delete all CaseFill data in this browser, use Erase all data on My cases, or clear this site's data in your browser settings. Each removes everything CaseFill stored on that device. On a shared or public computer, choose Sign out and erase case data on this device from the account menu. This can't be undone.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no transmission over the internet or storage system can be guaranteed 100% secure. Keep access to your email and Google account private, sign out on shared computers, and save downloaded court papers only on devices you trust.
10. Children
The Platform is for adults 18 and older and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors; if you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will delete it. Family cases often include information about children; that information is entered by a parent or guardian and stays on their device like everything else.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes to the software, the law or our practices. Changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date, and significant changes will be announced in the app.
